This year a record number of people applied to study at UCOL, reaching a massive
10,000 milestone in August.  This is 2,000 more applications compared to the same time over the last three years.  As your regional polytechnic, we share in your success and our programmes are designed in response to employment outcomes and industry input.  It is a complement to our Region to be performing at this level, amongst what has been a tough year for many polytechnics in New Zealand.

We take nothing for granted, our focus is on
steady progress, and we are delivering, with a solid financial surplus predicted in 2018.

The end of the 2018 academic year is full with students prepping for exams, completing assignments and finishing work placements.  Students continue to do well in their studies, as evidenced by student course completion rates at UCOL increasing from 73% in 2012 to 79% in 2017.  We are on track for sustained completion rates this year; the results are a testament to the strength of UCOL’s teaching and learning strategies and staff, who work alongside students and support them through their learning.

We are expecting more information from the government’s Roadmap 2020 project about the sustainable future of Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics before the end of December.

We will continue to share the accolades that our staff and students continue to win through various awards and projects, and the fun we have along the way.  The Team at UCOL will take a break over Christmas, re-opening on 7 January.

Best regards
